About Dr Tom Murphy
I work between both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, either in specialist practice or as a visiting implant surgeon. I accept referrals for dental implant treatment and cosmetic/prosthodontic treatment.
My implant practice is focused on more complex aspects of dental implantology, such as immediate implants/guided bone regeneration/block grafting/periodontal soft tissue grafting/ sinus lifts (internal and external) and with a heavy emphasis on full arch implant surgery. Regarding full arch surgery I am very experienced with immediate placement/immediate load surgeries, and I am one of the few implant surgeons in Ireland that carries out extra-maxillary pterygoid implants, trans-sinus implants and zygomatic implants. As well as the surgical aspects of implantology I am also very happy to restore single/full arch implants.
My prosthodontic practice is typically focussed around; partially/fully edentulous patients aiming for a fixed solution, typically involving implant or conventional bridgework, tooth wear and cosmetic rehabilitation. I enjoy a mixture of conventional full mouth rehabilitation, to novel minimally invasive adhesive approaches. I am currently enrolled on an MClinDent in prosthodontics at King’s College London.
I was awarded a master’s degree in clinical implantology from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). I am a lecturer for the UCLan Implantology MSc programme as well as visiting lecture for the Royal College of Surgeons England.
As part of my master’s degree, I also carried out and published my dissertation on novel methods for restoring full arch implant bridges and am currently carrying out further research projects.
How can I help?
Implant Surgery
I carry out all forms of implant surgery, such as immediate implants/guided bone regeneration/block grafting/periodontal soft tissue grafting/ sinus lifts and full arch surgery.
The area that I find most enjoyable is aesthetically driven implant treatment, as it combines implant surgery, periodontal soft tissue surgery and implant prosthodontics, to give the highest possible outcomes to my patients.
Full Mouth Rehabilitation
Full mouth rehabilitation involves comprehensively assessing and treating your smile, to give the best long term functional and aesthetic result.
Generally, this may mean carrying out a variety of treatments, such as implants, crowns and bridges. This will improve not only how the teeth look and feel but also how they will function long term.
Implant Lecturing and Surgical Mentoring
I routinely lecture across the UK and Ireland.
I am lecturer for the University of Central Lancashire Clinical Implantology MSc. I also help teach dentists attending our “Complex Implant Surgery” cadaver courses and I have lectured for the Royal College of Surgeons on complex implant surgery. As well as this I will be asked to speak at various locations as a visiting lecturer.
I am an implant mentor and frequently mentor implant surgeons on a 1 to 1 basis, on implant planning, implant surgery and implant restoration.
